Troubled Waters
In the Aquatic Environment
The surface of water, as it reflects the sky, can appear beautiful, unlimited and deceptively clean. With imaginative realism, I try to visualize the unseen dangers beneath the surface. This includes plastic debris that collects and swirls endlessly in the gyres of the oceans. It also includes all the man-made objects dumped indiscriminately into our local waterways. With Climate Change, our mistreatment of water is an issue that keeps growing in importance. Water all around the world becomes more degraded and precious at the same time.
In working on this series, I connected with other artists inspired by our human interaction with the marine environment. The images in this portfolio have been shown in many locations. Three of them were included in the international exhibit, GYRE: the Plastic Ocean, which traveled the country through the Smithsonian.
