A commercial plane with an overtired and inadequately trained crew crashed into a house in Clarence New York, killing all onboard and one man on the ground.

 

On the day after the tragedy 14 years ago, I felt compelled to draw this image. It is charcoal and pastel on the front section of the Buffalo News. After the drawing was finished, I felt it was too painful to look at or to share. A friend kept it in storage for me and then returned it last month. I would like to donate it to some historical organization but I am not yet sure where.

 

The fight over safety rules still goes on as the airline industry seeks to weaken safeguards put in place over the years.
